Matt Jaffe & The Distractions
Matt Jaffe is a singer/songwriter from the San Francisco Bay Area. With a growing arsenal of award winning new wave rock songs, he performs regularly throughout the Bay Area and beyond including NYC and SoCal.
Matt was 'discovered' playing solo at an open mic by ex-Talking Head, Jerry Harrison, who was compelled to produce the young man's music. Together, and with contributions from Steve Ferrone (Tom Petty) on drums and Nathan East on bass, they are working on Matt's first album. In bringing the ambitions of the studio to rambunctious life onstage, Matt sought out the monster rhythm section of Alex Coltharp and Sammie Fischer, making up Matt Jaffe & the Distractions.
The band’s first video and audio release features the song 'Backs of Our Eyelids,' which was named a winner in the Teen section of the 2013 International Songwriting Competition. The video was shot in the Marin Headlands, minutes from the Golden Gate Bridge. The boys celebrated the release on March 30th with a show at Slim’s in San Francisco.
The band's second video and audio release was 'New Continent.' Based on the last page of the Great Gatsby it was filmed in San Francisco and Marin County. Mid-May performances in LA (Roxy) and NYC (Sullivan Hall) marked the launch.
The band's growing footprint has been propelled by first place accolades at the 2013 Marin County Battle of the Bands and the Mill Valley Memorial Day Parade. The single, 'I Wanna Be Cruel' was named a finalist in the 2013 UnSigned Only Songwriting Competition. 'Armistice Day' was recently named the top song in the 2014 International Songwriting Competition Social Cause category and a finalist in the Teen section. And following a multi-step process including on-line voting and 2 live performances, the band was crowned champions of the San Francisco Hard Rock Cafe Battle of the Bands 2014.
