Rewind
The atmosphere was cold and our grief was taking hold
As we set off from the planet we had burned
We’d come to understand that the station where we’d land
Would be well beyond the point of no return
We cannot rewind or look behind, we’d only turn to pillars made of salt
We cannot rewind, we’d only find the proof that this whole failure is our fault
For centuries we roamed, but could not replace our home
And we should have known that was the sacrifice
Through windows’ armored glass, we watched galaxies go past
But we found no other world that would suffice
There’s no word in our language that captures the abyss
That’s opened up inside us since we’ve gone
We travel with the baggage of all the things we miss
And the godforsaken Earth we left them on
We’d do better not to mourn for the land where we born
‘cause like most things it looks better from afar
No planet can become that which we are coming from
But we can’t be anywhere but where we are
